“This is an interesting one given that Brazier used to be an integral part of the Threadneedle UK desk,” said McDermott.
The Ninety One fund has been the stronger performer and McDermott is a “big fan of Brazier’s solid and sensible approach to buying quality companies which can consistently create value for shareholder”.
“The core nature of the fund is reflected by Brazier not betting heavily on one or two stocks when building this portfolio,” he said.
The Threadneedle fund has not performed as well in the past five years, although it should be noted that it has more of a high conviction approach, according to McDermott.
“However, it should benefit if the unloved nature of UK equities really does become a thing of the past,” he said.
McDermott also believes that the appointment of Kinder – a manager he rates highly – could give the fund “a new lease of life, making it one to keep an eye on in the future”.
