The lead manager for the JP Morgan fund is Nicholas Weindling, who has managed the Ucits version of the fund since 2015 and the Hong Kong-domiciled one since 2007, according to Yew. The other co-managers of the fund are Shoichi Mizusawa, head of Japanese equities and who has 25 years of investment experience and Miyako Urabe, who has nine years of investment experience.
The trio is part of a Japanese-focused growth team of 11 portfolio managers, who also serve as research analysts. They have an average of 17 years of investment experience, Yew said.
The Schroders fund is managed by Ken Maeda, head of Japanese equities. He has been managing the Luxembourg version of the fund since 2007 and the Japan-domiciled strategy since May 2004. He is supported by a team of 11 analysts, including three dedicated to small-cap companies, with 18 years of investment experience on average, according to Yew.
Yew said he likes both teams, citing the investment experience of the fund managers as well as their supporting resources.
He noted that both lead managers for the JP Morgan and Schroders fund are personally invested in their funds.
“It is something that we like to see in fund managers,” he said.
