HEAD-TO-HEAD: Franklin Templeton versus Legg Mason

FSA compares two global fixed income products: the Templeton Global Total Return Fund and the Legg Mason Wester Asset Global Multi Strategy Fund.

Both funds are supported by long-tenured managers and stable teams, Poole said.

The Templeton fund is managed by Michael Hasanstab, with Calvin Ho as the co-manager since December 2018.

Hasanstab is the ultimate decision maker and driver of the process and philosophy.

The duo are supported by a team of five macro analysts and a relatively stable tream.

The Legg Mason fund did not specify its fund manager on its fund factsheet, but Poole noted that Ian Edmonds has run the strategy since its inception.

Edmonds has been with the firm since 1994 and is supported by extensive macro and research capabilities from Wester Asset.

“Both managers are supported by strong research capabilities. Western Asset’s fixed income focus and sheer number of supporting analysts and capabilities is very impressive, however,” said Poole.
