FE Fundinfo has given the Fidelity fund a two-crown rating, while the T Rowe Price fund receives one crown.
The crown-rating methodology assesses the fund’s alpha, volatility and consistency of performance.
McDermott believes that both products are strong offerings as they have been consistent in outperforming their peers over the long-term in a rapidly growing and changing sector.
However, he prefers the Fidelity fund, given that the T Rowe Price’s fund manager only assumed his role last year.
“The only real difference is that more of the long-term performance is attributed to Fidelity’s Hyunho Sohn, given that he has worked on the product since 2013.
“However, I will certainly be watching the T Rowe Price fund to see how it develops under the new manager,” he said.
