The Fidelity fund is led by Singapore-based Dale Nicholls, who has been managing the fund since 2003, according to Ng. He first joined Fidelity in 1996 in Tokyo and started as a Japanese equity analyst.
Besides the Fidelity Pacific Fund, Nicholls also became the lead manager of the FF Asian Smaller Companies Fund in 2011.
Nicholls is supported by a team of at least 50 analysts that cover the region, according to Ng.
Turning to the JP Morgan Fund, Ng said that the product is co-managed by Aisa Ogoshi and Robert Lloyd. Ogoshi, who is a portfolio manager within the Asia Pacific dynamic team, became co-manager of the fund in 2012. She has been a portfolio manager within the Japan portfolio group since 2001 and transferred to Hong Kong from Tokyo in 2005, Ng noted.
Lloyd, who is also a portfolio manager for the Asia Pacific Core strategy, became co-manager of the fund in 2015. He first joined the firm in 2005 in Tokyo and relocated to Hong Kong in 2009.
The managers are each supported by a sizable team of country and sector analysts, according to Ng.
Ng has no concerns with the funds’ teams, as he believes both have experienced managers and ample resources.
