Both funds have been awarded five stars and Silver ratings by Morningstar analysts, and four-crown ratings by FE Analytics.
Morningstar’s star ratings are based on historical performance and its Silver analyst rating is forward-looking, based on analysts’ conviction of the funds’ ability to outperform their benchmark and peers within an appropriate level of risk.
The FE Crown Rating methodology assesses the fund’s alpha, volatility and consistency of performance.
The Eastspring fund is a consideration for those investors who can stomach volatility and the related performance swings in the short-term and the MFS Meridan product is a consideration for investors who have less tolerance for volatility-sensitive funds.
“In volatile markets, investors are likely to experience a smoother ride with the MFS fund; they can expect a bumpier journey with the Eastspring fund in the short term,” said Caquineau.
Nevertheless, each fund should succeed in the long term, and continue to outperform the index and their category peers, he concluded.
