Manager review
Both the Allianz and Pictet products are led by experienced fund managers, according to McDermott.
The Allianz product is led by senior portfolio manager Andreas Fruschki, who is also the director of equity research for Europe, he said. Fruschki joined the firm in 2005 and is also responsible for the Allianz Thematica Fund. He is supported by co-manager Alina Donets.
According to data from Morningstar, Fruschki has been managing the fund’s institutional share class since 2008, while Donets became co-manager last year.
The Pictet fund is managed by a five-strong thematic equities team, which include portfolio managers Cédric Lecamp, Louis Veilleux, Hans Peter Portner, Philippe Rohner and Peter Rawlence, according to McDermott.
With the exception of Rawlence, all four managers have been with the firm for at least a decade, he added.
Portner, who is also the firm’s head of the thematic equities team, has been managing the fund since 2001 and was joined by Rohner, a sector specialist for the energy and materials sectors, in 2013, according to FE Analytics. The three others became co-managers in 2018.
McDermott does not have any concerns about either team, given the investment experience and long-track records of the fund managers.
