Cappetta hired by Investec for distribution role

The former Julius Baer fund advisory head will now shift to private bank fund distribution for the asset management firm.

Investec Asset Management has brought in John Cappetta to serve as head of private banking and Asia advisor, according to a statement from the firm.

He will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for managing and driving Investec Asset Management’s private bank distribution business across Asia.

Cappetta was formerly at Bank Julius Baer in Singapore where he was the head of funds advisory for Asia. Prior to that, he held senior roles at Merrill Lynch, George Van & Company and Safra Asset Management in the US, Singapore and Australia.

Eric Fu, Investec’s managing director and country head for Greater China, who oversees Investec’s Asia advisor business, underscored the advantages of Cappetta’s private bank experience.

“We are excited to tap into his wealth of experience and expertise in managed advisory sales to private bankers and high net worth clients, which will be instrumental in bolstering our private banking distribution in Asia.”

South Africa-based Investec manages $151bn in assets for third party clients, according to the statement. In Hong Kong, the firm has 33 SFC-registered funds and in Singapore 19 MAS authorised products, according to FE data.
