AXA IM China JV names board members
AXA Investment Managers has announced the appointment of Pierre Axel Margulies as country manager in China and a member of the board of its Chinese joint venture, AXA SPDB Investment Managers.
Margulies is based in Shanghai and will report to Marco Morelli, executive chairman of AXA IM.
In the same statement, the company also named Terence Lam, managing director, head of client group core, Asia Pacific, as a member of the board of AXA SPDB Investment Managers.
“The appointment of [Margulies] and [Lam] will be instrumental in the development of our China business together with our joint venture partner, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, as part of the firm’s commitment to grow our presence in Asia capitalising on the opportunities in this region for the firm and our investors,” said Morelli.
Margulies will represent AXA IM’s interest in the joint venture and explore possibilities to further expand the company’s business in China, according to the company.
Established in August 2007, AXA SPDB Investment Managers is a fund management joint venture owned by AXA IM and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
As of the end of last year, the assets under management of the joint venture reached RMB345.46bn ($50.08bn) with net assets amounting to RMB 2.99bn.
UBP bolsters South Asia partner advisory team
To strengthen the bank’s capabilities in Asia, UBP has appointed Alania Concepcion as the head of partner advisory, South Asia, according to a company announcement.
Concepcion is based in Singapore and will lead the team of investment advisers in South Asia.
She reports regionally to Edouard Hoepffner, head of investment services Asia, and globally to Philippe Henry, global head of advisory.
Before joining the firm, Concepcion was the investment management team head for South East Asia at Deutsche Private Bank in Singapore.
She also worked as the co-head of private banking coverage in Asia for Barclays Global Markets for seven years, as well as the head of investment consulting for the Singapore and Malaysia markets at Credit Suisse.
The private bank also announced that Priscilla Ng has joined the company as senior investment adviser, South Asia.
Ng is also based in Singapore and reports to Concepcion.
Prior to joining UBP, Ng spent six years working at the International Finance Corporation and has also worked at Standard Chartered Private Bank in Singapore.
The bank has been ramping up its investment team in Asia.
Earlier this year, UBP tapped Anthony Kao from Citigroup as the head of investment consulting, North Asia.
