About the event
Fund Selector Asia is delighted to host the Lunch Briefing LIVE and in-person on Tuesday, 21st March in Singapore.
This timely event will explore how to invest effectively in a shifting and unpredictable macro, market and geopolitical environment.
In general, overall sentiment has improved following China’s re-opening, easing inflation and a downgrade of the likelihood of recession in the US and Europe. As a result, many of the securities, sectors and investment strategies that underperformed for much of 2022 are regaining some ground as investors capitalise on attractive valuations after the significant falls in equity and bond markets.
Yet there is a long way to go, especially with slower economic growth forecast for 2023 and tight liquidity conditions.
In the bid for reliable and diversified returns, to protect portfolios and prepare them for the future, investors are looking closely at their asset allocation and assessing where to make tactical tilts. In particular, Asia continues to attract a lot of attention globally for its growth potential, spurred by consumption spending across the region, and notably in China’s domestic economy.
These are among the topics that will be considered and discussed in Singapore.
Key reasons to join us:
- Focused presentations from leading global investment managers
- Insights from our panel on evolving approaches to asset allocation and portfolio strategy
- Engaging and interactive conversations with your peers
- Opportunities to network, to deepen relationships with existing contacts and develop new ones

12:00pm | Welcoming remarks Andrew Crooke, contributing editor, Fund Selector Asia |
12:10pm | Presentation 1: Seeking true diversification After a year in which traditional, long-only approaches to both equities and bonds failed, this session will explain how a market neutral, global equities strategy can provide uncorrelated returns. Jupiter will also share their team’s recent research and positioning in the current market environment. James Murray, investment manager, systematic equities, Jupiter Asset Management |
12:35pm | Presentation 2: Solving the duration versus-credit dilemma U.S. Treasury yields have increased at a historically high rate in 2022 and at the same time, credit spreads have risen significantly. The resulting total returns in the broad market are some of the worst that fixed income investors have ever experienced. This creates a dilemma: how do investors manage duration risk when interest rates and credit risk rise as the Federal Reserve (Fed) tightens monetary policy faster than at any time in modern history? Our Portfolio Manager will shed some light on where we find opportunities in the fixed income universe. Chris Lee, senior portfolio manager, Allspring Global Investments |
1:00pm | Plated lunch will be served |
1:20pm | Panel discussion: Realigning portfolios in a new reality – How can investors prepare for so many unknowns amid such challenging market and macro scenarios? – How is today’s investment reality reshaping approaches to portfolio construction in terms of both strategic and tactical asset allocation? – With income returning for bond investors, will the 60/40 allocation framework continue? – Is it time to take a more granular approach, make more frequent portfolio changes and add an alternatives twist? – Where can investors find stable yet liquid and non-correlated returns to bolster performance and dampen portfolio volatility? – Where does China fit into 2023 investment strategies? – How can investors be more proactive in risk management to better plan for future portfolio needs? – Has the appeal and relevance of ESG investing changed in turbulent markets? – How can investors incorporate the circular economy and innovation more significantly in portfolios? – What does today’s landscape mean for how investors might approach manager selection going forward? Chris Lee, senior portfolio manager, Allspring Global Investments Kenneth Teow, senior vice president, senior fund analyst, regional fund selection team, DBS Bank James Murray, investment manager, systematic equities, Jupiter Asset Management |
2:00pm | Closing remarks Andrew Crooke, contributing editor, Fund Selector Asia |
