Fishing for Stocks in China

China’s stock market is misunderstood,” claim the authors of the report. While acknowledging rising macro-economic concerns, they see plenty of high-quality stock-picking opportunities in sectors such as consumer, internet, healthcare and education.

Pivot Points

Up to five policy pivots in the direction and scope of the monetary, fiscal, trade, geopolitical and exchange rates of the major economies could occur in the next five years, the report argues. But while the direction of some of these pivots may be known, the impact on global economies and markets are highly uncertain.

According to the report, two-thirds of 500 global asset managers and owners surveyed believe it is becoming more challenging to achieve growth in the current market environment. The study outlines what it believes will be a competitive model for asset management firms.

Asia Bond Monitor, June 2017

In spite of improved financial stability and receding risks for emerging East Asia’s bond markets, a number of risks remain. The report discusses the risks to emerging Asia’s financial stability under tightening global liquidity conditions and the vulnerability of financial markets to cyberattacks.

The reflation debate

The mid-year outlook report argues that reflation is a matter of when and not if, and it will benefit equity markets outside the US. But China is a key risk, and the report cautions that a high level of complacency exists among investors.
