Barclays appoints Private Bank head for Asia

Wee Yee-Yong joins Barclays from Morgan Stanley.

Barclays has appointed Wee Yee-Yeong as head of Private Bank Singapore and head of Private Bank Asia. Based in Singapore, he will lead Barclays’ private banking business in Singapore and drive a market-led approach for the region, working closely with the Private Bank’s wider distribution teams serving international Asian clients, according to a statement by the UK bank. He will join Barclays later this year.

Wee (pictured) joins Barclays Private Bank from Morgan Stanley, where he is currently chief executive and head of sales for the firm’s Singapore wealth management business.

He has more than two decades of experience building wealth management franchises, leading teams and advising ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients across Asia Pacific. He has previously held senior leadership and client coverage roles at Bank of Singapore, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, UBS Wealth Management, and Merrill Lynch. He will succeed Alexander Harrison in his capacity as interim head of Private Bank Singapore.

The appointment follows the recent launch of Barclays Private Bank’s Singapore booking centre and reinforces the bank’s commitment to expanding its presence in one of the world’s most important wealth management hubs.

Annabelle Bryde, head of Barclays Private Bank International, said:“Singapore is a key market for Barclays and an important gateway to growth across Asia Pacific. Yee-Yeong’s deep regional expertise, strong leadership credentials and client relationships will help us build on the momentum we have established in the region. His appointment marks an important step in the next phase of our growth strategy as we continue to deepen relationships with entrepreneurs, UHNW clients and family offices across the region.”

Jaideep Khanna, CEO, Asia Pacific, Barclays, said: “Asia Pacific is a strategically important region for Barclays, and Singapore is central to our long-term growth ambitions. The recent launch of our Singapore booking centre marked a significant milestone in our growth strategy, and Yee-Yeong’s appointment represents another important step in that journey.”

Private Bank India will remain under the leadership of Adrish Ghosh, who will continue to report directly to Bryde.
