RQI Investors hires four new quant specialists

The appointments bring the team to 25 professionals and build on four appointments made earlier in 2026.

RQI Investors, an active quantitative equities manager within the First Sentier Group, has appointed four investment and research professionals. The appointments bring the team to 25 professionals and build on four appointments made earlier in 2026. The new hires include:

John Conomos who joins as investment director, supporting client engagement, consultant relationships, product development and thought leadership. He previously served as head of global quantitative research at Macquarie Group.

Chang Hwan Sung who joins as senior quantitative portfolio manager with responsibilities across RQI Investors’ global value and diversified alpha strategies. He previously held senior portfolio management and quantitative investment roles at Invesco, BlackRock and Samsung Asset Management.

Sam Machen joins as quantitative research developer. He Machen previously held a number of quantitative modelling and software engineering roles at Jacobi.

James Sutherland joins as quantitative researcher. Previously, he was a quant trader developer at Tibra Capital specialising in global futures and equities.

The appointments come as RQI Investors further broadens its product offering and expands its global client base. Over the past year, the business has secured several new client mandates, including a mandate for a new Global Diversified Smaller Companies strategy, while a major Australian super fund has seeded a new Emerging Markets Diversified Alpha strategy, according to a statement by the firm.

The business also expanded investor access to its Global Value strategy in the UK via an OEIC vehicle this year, after it launched a UCITS vehicle, available to North American, European and Asian investors, in 2025, with additional product launches planned over the next 12 months.

Andrew Francis, chief executive of RQI Investors said: “These appointments deepen our investment and research capabilities, and reflect our commitment to innovation, strategy development and strong client outcomes. As we continue to grow, having exceptional talent across the business is critical to supporting our clients and delivering on our performance objectives.”
