China Asset Management (ChinaAMC) and Franklin Templeton yesterday announced in Shenzhen the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a step in cross-border asset management cooperation between the two investment institutions.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between the two firms, focusing on areas such as joint product development, sharing of market insights, and exchange of investment expertise, according to a statement by the firms.

Through the collaboration, the firms intend to explore the development of co-branded ETFs across Hong Kong, UCITS, and US ETF structures, subject to applicable regulatory approvals. The proposed ETFs would seek to provide investors with differentiated access to long-term growth opportunities driven by evolving market themes across China, Asia, and global markets.

The partnership aims to bring together the complementary strengths of both firms, combining ChinaAMC’s leadership in China’s asset management industry, local distribution strengths and expertise in index innovation with Franklin Templeton’s global investment platform, ETF capabilities and extensive international distribution network spanning more than 35 countries.

Yimei Li, CEO, ChinaAMC, commented: “Technological innovation led by artificial intelligence is reshaping global supply chains while profoundly transforming economic landscapes and asset allocation logic. With the world’s most comprehensive industrial supply chain and a flourishing innovation ecosystem, Chinese assets are embracing an entirely new era of opportunities.”

“With a history spanning nearly eight decades, Franklin Templeton has navigated multiple economic cycles while remaining committed to value investing and long-term investing. With approximately $1.8trn in assets under management as of 30 September 2026, its operations span more than 35 countries and regions worldwide.”

“China’s capital markets are becoming an increasingly important part of the global investment landscape. We are seeing more Chinese investors looking to invest internationally, while global investors continue to seek opportunities in China”, said Daniel Gamba, co-president & chief commercial officer, Franklin Templeton.

“ChinaAMC is one of China’s most respected asset managers, with a strong track record of innovation and a deep expertise in the local market. Through this strategic collaboration, we see an exciting opportunity to bring together our respective strengths to develop differentiated ETF solutions that provide compelling opportunities across China and global markets.”
