Ray Sharma-Ong has joined Nomura International Wealth Management as managing director, chief investment officer (CIO) and head of discretionary portfolio management (DPM). He is based in Singapore.

In this role, Sharma-Ong (pictured) will report to Akshay Prasad, head of investment products & advisory solutions, Nomura IWM and focus on further expanding the firm’s franchise working closely with its client coverage, investment products and advisory solutions teams, according to the contents of an internal memo confirmed by a spokesperson.

Before joining Nomura, Sharma-Ong was deputy global head of multi-asset bespoke solutions at Aberdeen Investments, where he and the multi-asset team managed over$35bn in cross-asset portfolios.

He led investment strategy, idea generation, portfolio management, and implementation across global multi-asset strategies. He also chaired Aberdeen’s global bespoke multi-asset investment group for Apac and the global FX research group.

Prior to Aberdeen, Sharma-Ong was a portfolio manager within the CIO team at J.P. Morgan Asset & Wealth Management.

He holds a Master of Science in Management, specializing in finance and management strategies, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, specialising in analytics.
