Macquarie AM hires 3 for Asia wealth team

The infrastructure specialist is expanding its presence in the Asia wealth market.

Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) is strengthening its wealth business in Asia, hiring three experienced professionals to its team: Wai Kin Leung as senior vice president, Asia Wealth; Kate Chan as head of Asia Wealth marketing; and Hai Rou Ong as executive, Asia Wealth.

Leung has over thirteen years of expertise in private markets, fund advisory, and portfolio management, having worked at leading financial institutions across Asia. Before joining Macquarie, he was director of managed solutions at LGT Private Banking, where he led global research, due diligence, and capital raising for private equity, private credit, and real asset investments. He has also held roles in the private banking divisions of Pictet, Credit Suisse, and HSBC.

In his new role, Leung will play a key part in advancing Macquarie’s private market solutions for wealth clients across Asia, with a particular focus on Greater China.

As head of Asia Wealth marketing, Chan will spearhead strategic marketing efforts to elevate MAM’s brand recognition and strengthen engagement with wealth clients and distributors across Asia.

Prior to joining Macquarie, Kate was the head of marketing, Asia ex-Japan at Lazard Asset Management, where she led integrated marketing and PR strategies to support regional growth priorities for both institutional and third-party distribution channels. Her experience also includes channel marketing roles at J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Standard Life Investments.

Ong joins as executive, with primary responsibilities for include capital raising, client servicing, and cultivating distributor relationships to broaden market reach and deliver client-focused solutions.

We see continued demand from private wealth investors for private infrastructure, both across sub-sectors and the capital stack.

MAM manages over $230bn, as at 30 September 2025. MAM has been actively deepening its presence in the Asia wealth market, with its flagship infrastructure strategies — launched in summer 2024 — attracting close to $2bn billion in capital, predominantly from investors across Asia, according to the firm.
