J Safra Sarasin hires from BNPP Private Wealth

The bank is expected to make more hires this year.

J Safra Sarasin has appointed Cheung Kin as Hong Kong-based managing director for client advisory, according to a statement from the firm.

Cheung reports to Angie Ma, Hong Kong-based managing director and vice chair for client advisory, who just joined the bank last month from Credit Suisse.

At the time of Ma’s appointment, the firm said that it will continue to hire more bankers as it enhances its coverage in the region.

Cheung has around 22 years of private banking experience, the majority of which involved leading teams serving Greater China clients, according to the statement.

Before J Safra Sarasin, Cheung spent less than one year at BNP Paribas Private Wealth Management, where he was a managing director and China market team head since June last year, according to the statement.

Before that, he was Greater China head at DBS Private Bank, where he was responsible for expanding the the ultra high net worth segment for the firm’s business in Hong Kong. He has also held senior roles at Coutts, Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management and UBS Wealth Management, according to the statement.
