HSBC names Desmond Kuang as CIO Asia

Kuang is currently the chief investment officer, China, and the interim head of wealth and premier solutions, China.

HSBC today announced the appointment of Desmond Kuang as chief investment officer, Asia, HSBC Private Bank and Premier Wealth, effective 6 July 2026.

In his new role, Kuang (pictured) will be responsible for developing regional investment strategies and themes across all asset classes for private banking and premier clients in the region, excluding Hong Kong, according to a statement by the firm.

He is an active member of the bank’s global investment committee, a governance body that periodically analyses and develops asset allocation strategies for its clients.

Kuang has two decades of experience in the banking industry, having held a range of leadership positions across asset management and investment research sectors. He is currently the chief investment officer, China, and the interim head of wealth and premier solutions, China. He will continue in these roles until successors are appointed.

Based in Singapore, Kuang will report to Sels, as well as to Ishan Sarkar, head of wealth and premier solutions, Singapore.
