Exclusive: Franklin Templeton to appoint new CIO at end of year

Senior vice president and director of portfolio management Jonathan Curtis is to take the reins as CIO of Franklin Equity Group at the end of the year.

Franklin Templeton is promoting Jonathan Curtis (pictured) to chief investment officer (CIO) of Franklin Equity Group (FEG) at the end of the year, a company spokesperson has confirmed with FSA.

Curtis is currently senior vice president and director of portfolio management of FEG, overseeing the firm’s US-focused and sector strategy portfolio management and risk teams.

He is also lead portfolio manager of the Franklin Technology Fund and heads FEG’s technology and communications research team.

Curtis joined the firm in 2008 as an equity analyst covering technology. Before that he was a sell-side researcher for the communications equipment sector. Prior to that he was a software and systems engineer.

He holds an M.B.A. from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
