UBP and HSBC make senior hires

Both banks aim to boost their wealth management businesses in Asia.

Union Bancaire Privée (UBP) has appointed Victor Suen as managing director and team head for the Greater China market. He reports to Jonathan Lin, market head, Greater China, and is based in Singapore.

In this role, Suen will strengthen the bank’s Greater China client coverage and will advise the region’s ultra high net worth segment, according to the bank.

Suen joins UBP from China Construction Bank (Asia) where he was deputy head of relationship management. Previously, he held senior roles at Everbright Sun Hung Kai, HSBC and Bank of China (Hong Kong).

UBP has been recruiting as the bank grows its business in Asia. From January 2021 to January 2022, UBP made 12 senior hires at managing director level in the region, ranging across various business units including client relationship management, client advisory and wealth planning.

Geneva-based UBP specialises in wealth management for private and institutional clients. It employs 1,904 people in 20 locations worldwide and it holds CHF160.4bn ($173.5bn) in AUM (as at 31 December 2021), according to the bank.

HSBC lures BOS banker

Meanwhile, HSBC has boosted its investments and wealth solutions division with a senior appointment, the bank said.

Fidelis Oruche will be global head of capital markets and investments and wealth solutions (IWS) platforms for its wealth and personal banking (WPB) business, with effect from 1 March 2022. He will be based in Singapore, reporting to Lavanya Chari, global head of IWS.

Responsible for the development of capital markets products and platforms across Personal, Premier and Global Private Banking (GPB) clients, Oruche will aim to enhance the focus of WPB’s online trading offering for clients, collaborating with the investment bank and global business partners.

Oruche has two decades of experience in financial services. He joins HSBC from Bank of Singapore, where he was most recently managing director, head of alternative investments and managed solutions.

Prior to this role, he was the head of investment advisory and sales where he led teams of advisors and product specialists in Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai responsible for providing advisory and execution services in fixed income, foreign exchange, equities, structured products, derivatives, funds solutions and private equity.
