SLI hires two multi-asset specialists

Standard Life Investments has poached two professionals to serve as investment directors for its global investment specialist team.

Jason Yu was recurited from Wellington Management and Dongyue Zhang from Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

The firm said the appointments are integral to SLI’s Asia growth strategy and support its global multi-asset investment capabilities.

Yu served as an investment director for fixed income and absolute return products at Wellington.

Zhang was a vice president and a portfolio manager in Goldman’s global portfolio solutions group.

Yu joined SLI in April while Zhang took charge of his role this month, a company spokeswoman said.

Based in Hong Kong, both Yu and Zhang are responsible for supporting the growth of the multi-asset suite of products in Asia.

They report to Jonathan Price, global head of investment specialists, and will be a part of a 58-person multi-asset investment team.

The new appointments come at a time when investor demand for multi-asset offerings are increasing, according to David Peng, SLI’s head of Asia.

Multi-asset funds have been gathering interest amid the rise in market volatility and are one way to reduce risk, according to Karen Tan, director and head of global wealth solutions in Asia-Pacific at Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management.

Multi-asset products are contenders to address investors’ income needs in the current low-yield environment, Schroders said recently.
