Pimco hires from Greenwich Associates

The firm appointed Abhi Shroff as senior vice president and head of Southeast institutional business development.

Shroff will be responsible for developing new businesses and managing relationships with institutional clients, the firm said in a statement.

His regional coverage will include Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Shroff is based in Singapore and his appointment became effective from yesterday, a Pimco spokeswoman told FSA.

Shroff reports to Scott Steele, the Hong Kong-based head of institutional business for Asia ex-Japan. 

His posiiton is not a newly-created one, the spokeswoman added, but declined to provide details about who he is replacing. 

“Investors will benefit from [Scroff’s] experience in both financial markets and asset management, and his hiring further underscores our commitment to our Asia-Pacific business,” Eric Mogelof, managing director and head of Asia-Pacific said in the statement.

Prior to joining the firm, Shroff was a partner and managing director at Greenwich Associates, where he led the Asia-Pacific and Middle East business. His clients included global and regional financial institutions.

Previously, he worked with UBS Investment Bank in London. Shroff began his career as a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting where he focused on the Australian and Asian retail banking and asset management sectors.
