FSA Awards: The votes are in…

All the votes have been tallied in FSA's fourth annual Fund Management Awards and results show that many categories were extremely competitive.
FSA Awards: The votes are in...

This year, a record number of fund selector judges from private and retail banks and wealth management firms in Asia  — a total of 40 — participated in voting for the funds on the shortlist, which was generated through quantitative analysis by FE Advisory Asia.

The FSA Fund Management Awards have two winners – Platinum and Gold – in each of the 14 categories. Separate awards are given in Hong Kong and Singapore.

This year, FSA has added two firm awards. We asked the fund selector judges two write-in questions in regards to their experience in 2017, and asked them to explain the reasons behind their choices and give examples.

The first question was to name the firm they believed should be singled out for product innovation. The second was the firm they believe should be recognised for going the extra mile with service. Based on their answers, FSA will present a Platinum and Gold firm award for the first time.

In several of the categories, the votes extremely close, especially in the equity asset classes — US, European and global — where there was the toughest competition.

A surprise was that two firms won five awards across Hong Kong and Singapore.

Winners are being contacted and they will be revealed at the awards luncheons on January 23 in Singapore, and in Hong Kong on January 25.

The awards honour excellence in fund management and are fundamentally based on quantitative analysis by FE Advisory Asia.

To build the shortlists, FE used its Crown Rating system, which rates funds using three separate tests: alpha, volatility and consistency. It also ran fund performance over multiple time periods and on a risk-adjusted basis.

The shortlists were provided to the judges, who were guided with the question: Which fund within each asset class do you think will perform best over the next 12 months?

FSA has published the lists of all shortlisted funds.
