CS poaches senior banker from HSBC

The Swiss wealth manager has hired a vice chair for Southeast Asia.

Bie Lan Oey has joined Credit Suisse from HSBC Private Banking in a newly-created position of vice chairman private banking, Southeast Asia.

Based in Singapore, she started work on 5 October, and reports to Benjamin Cavalli, head of private banking, South Asia.

“In her new role, Oey will work closely with our leadership team within the Southeast Asia markets and senior bankers to build and strengthen our most important client relationships and capitalize on collaboration opportunities,” said Cavalli in a statement.

“She will also help us accelerate key initiatives, drive new client acquisition, and nurture our talent pool to position us well for the next phase of growth,” he added.

Oey spent two decades at HSBC Private Banking where she was most recently managing director covering the ultra high net worth (UHNW) Indonesia market and also co-led “Next Generation” programmes.

Prior to that, she was the head of the UHNW segment for Southeast Asia where she developed business strategy for selected value clients connecting services between private banking and corporate banking & global markets.

In a career spanning around 30 years, Oey has held several senior roles roles at UBS Wealth Management, Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan Chase.

“Oey is a well known veteran private banker, with a long track record of success [with] unparalleled understanding of [Southeast Asia],” said Cavalli.

Credit Suisse’s AUM in Apac amounted to CHF 215.8bn ($235.74bn) in the second quarter of 2020, according to a spokeswoman at the bank.
