Baring poaches Schroders Luo

Baring Asset Management has hired Schroder Investment Management's Laura Luo as head of Hong Kong China equities effective 12 September.

Luo replaces Agnes Deng, who has left the company, and will also be the lead manager for Baring Hong Kong China Fund and segregated portfolios.

 

Based in Hong Kong, Luo will report to Baring’s chief investment officer Wilfred Sit.

 

Luo has more than 17 years of experience of researching and investing in Hong Kong China equities, having been lead manager on several Hong Kong China equity funds with assets under management of over $2bn. This includes the Schroder International Selection Fund: China Opportunities, which she managed since its inception in 2006. Prior to that, she was head of China equity research at a sell-side institution.

 

In addition to Luo’s appointment, Barings said Winston Ke, who will report to Luo, has been appointed sole lead manager on all China A-Share portfolios.

 

Ke joined Barings in April 2010 from First State Cinda Asset Management in China, where he covered China A-Share markets. 

Baring Hong Kong China Fund, the flagship scheme launched in  launched in 1982, has assets under management of US$2.3 bn.

 

The fund invests primarily in equities of companies incorporated in Hong Kong or China, or in companies exercising the predominant part of their economic activity in Hong Kong or China.
