Baring plucks head of sales from HSBC

In preparation for the launch of its Hong Kong-domiciled funds, Baring Asset Management has hired Edmund Chong to lead product distribution in Asia ex-Japan.
Chong’s official title is “head of sales for client service and business development for distribution in Asia ex-Japan”.

He is based in Hong Kong and reports to Gerry Ng, chief executive officer of Asia ex-Japan.

Previously, Chong was head of sales for the wholesale business at HSBC Global Asset Management. Prior to that, he held senior roles at BNP Paribas Investment Partners, SG Asset Management and Franklin Templeton, the firm said.

“[Chong] brings deep experience of the industry and our key distributors to the firm and joins to lead the mutual fund distribution business at an exciting time as we prepare to launch the Barings Hong Kong domiciled fund range,” Ng said.

Late last year, Baring announced that it would launch three Hong Kong-domiciled funds to position the firm for the planned mutual fund recognition programme between Hong Kong and China.
